Monday, Nov. 17, marked the beginning of another year of Paynesville wrestling. During the week, 32 wrestlers were practicing in the high school, drilling and conditioning, and getting ready for team competition.

When asked about this year's team, coach Vagle stated, "We have a pretty good turnout this year with 32 wrestlers. The turnout is up from an average year. We'll miss the seven superstar seniors from last year that made up over half the lineup. We're losing quality and quantity from them." Vagle also stated the wrestling team has a lot of above average wrestlers which should be able to fill in the nine middle weight classes. "The biggest concern right now is the bottom and the top two weight classes. They will be filled with B-squad, junior high, or by three newcomers: Ken Mages, Bret Aagesen, and Steve Flint."

The latest Guillotine ranked the PHS wrestling team at fourth place in class AA. The other teams in our section that are also rated are Rocori and Litchfield at 10th and 12th respectively. Paynesville has no individual rankings as of the latest Guillotine.

Some of the tournaments the wrestling team will be participating in this year are the Foley, Farmington, East View in Apple Valley, and the two tournaments held in our own gym.
