"Faster. Faster! UP! Good job."

Once again the Paynesville gymnastics team has begun flipping and flying around the gym in preparation for what they hope will be a successful season. The coaches for this season are head coach Diane Dutcher, assistant coaches Deb Nehowig and Gary Haglund. Coach Haglund is returning to the team after taking a few years off. Welcome back!

The team has seven girls returning with varsity experience, including two members of the 1995-96 all-conference team, juniors Sara Spanier and Maria Wegner . Other gymnasts returning with varsity experience are senior Lori Thomes, sophomores Camille Flanders and Jen Moser, freshman Krysta Larson, and eighth grader Joy Hemmesch. Completing the team this year are freshmen- Amanda Granzow, Tiffany Higgins, Tracy Miller and Amanda Reeck- eighth graders- Jenni Mayer and Michelle Wolbeck- and seventh graders - Kelli Fenske, Mesa Frenchick, Andrea Gottwald, Rachel Koehn, Amy Mueller, and Carrie Nistler.

Commenting on the number of seventh graders joining the team this year, Coach Dutcher said, "It is nice to see so many out for the team, and it is also nice to see all of last years seventh graders return to the team this year."

The gymnastics team and coaches would like to thank the Booster Club for purchasing two round rail bars for the second set of bars in the gym. The round rails are easier to hold onto than the old oval rails and make it easier to swing. Also, during competitions the gymnasts compete on round rails, so practicing on them are a necessity. The team would also like to thank Mr. Shimak and his construction class for taking the oval rails and designing a some training bars for the team. The training bars are used for conditioning and practicing hand placement during pirouetting skills. Thank you to all who were involved.

The team is looking forward to a fun and rewarding season, and would like to encourage people to come cheer for them.
