Jansen, Hemingson honored for volleyball

Heidi Jansen The 2001 volleyball season came to an end last Tuesday, Nov. 6,with their annual banquet. The banquet was held to honor all the squads and reflect upon their season.

Lisa Hemingson The varsity team ended their season with a record of 10-11, which is just one game short of their goal of being at least .500. The Bulldogs were 5-7 in the West Central Conference North, which featured one state team (Sauk Centre) and another section finalist (Albany).

In team statistics, the Bulldogs served 1,395/1,551 or 90 percent. The girls dug the ball 2,029 times, hit 2,107 times (with 547 kills), received serve 1,270 times, had 1,783 sets (with 420 set assists).

Coach Sheila Mayer gave out individual awards to all her players: Sara Lieser and Jenny Habben, as captains, leader, and utility players; Hannah Braun, highest assist percentage with 187/723 at 25 percent; Missy Bachman, 100 percent serving and best storyteller; Mindy Meagher, most solo and assist ace blocks at 69; Ashley Wall, 100 percent serving and right side hitter/blocker; Morgan Martinson, most kills at 137; Hemingson, most assists with 213; Jansen, most consistent passer and most ace serves with 37.

Every year the team votes on one award and that is Most Inspirational. This year the award was given to Habben.

The varsity team would like to thank Alisa Schmidt for doing a wonderful job as the manager. Ashley Mackedanz, Amy Roberg, and Amanda Glenz also helped the varsity team out at the end of the season.
