Second loss to Thunder ends PHS football season

The Paynesville Bulldog football team led 6-0 at the beginning of the fourth quarter over state-ranked Long Prairie-Grey Eagle last Tuesday night in the first round of football playoffs. Just like the Golden Gopher football team last Saturday, the Bulldogs couldn't hold on to the lead in the fourth quarter and lost in the end 21-6.

After a scoreless first half for both teams, the Bulldogs scored in the third quarter on a 51-yard run by Milan Virant. The extra point try failed.

The Thunder made four interceptions and recovered two fumbles to score 21 points in the fourth quarter and win the game.

It would have been a major upset if the Bulldogs had defeated the 9-0 Thunder on their home field.

The Bulldogs end the season 2-3 in the conference and 2-7 overall.
