Girls cross country sixth at Sauk Centre

This article submitted by Amanda Lieser & Emily Glenz on 10/8/96.

The Paynesville cross country team traveled to Sauk Centre on Tuesday, Oct. 1, for their last regular meet of the season.

Running conditions were excellent. After a few cool weather meets, it was nice to have the warm sun shining while running.

Sauk Centre has a very flat course which is preferred by most runners. Most of the girls were ready to run.

After the usual pep-talk from coach Darrel Carstens, the runners were off. Leading the Bulldogs in was Erin Aagesen, finishing 11th. Amanda Lieser was close behind in 15th. Both of these girls are valuable assets to the team and will be great help in the future meets.

Camille Flanders, who has been running very consistently this year, was the third runner in for Paynesville. Flanders placed 37th.

Placing 41st and 45th for the team were Emily Glenz and Tiffany Rausch. These three girls ran in a pack for part of the race, pushing each other on.

Carin Frenchick placed 59th. Amber Michaelis finished 73rd. Both girls ran well.

This meet was a bigger race than most. There was 13 complete teams that ran.

Cindy Lang placed 17th, leading the Paynesville Bulldogs in. Lang has been a very consistent runner for the junior varsity team this year.

Melody Veldkamp has been improving all season and she finished behind Lang, in 19th place.

Melinda Norris was close to the first two runners. She placed 20th.

Christina Utsch finished with this pack too. Utsch placed 22nd. Part of running is sticking together, and these girls did a great job at this meet, finishing within six places of each other.

Kelli Fenske and Missy Winter finished 29th and 38th, respectively. Both girls werenít feeling well while running, so that affected their times.

There was 13 schools in this race, but only five fielded complete teams. The Bulldogs ran well as a team and placed second.
