Chain of Lakes boys win season finale 2-1

By Coach Ric Koehn

The Chain of Lakes boys' soccer team completed their first season with a 2-1 victory over Sartell on Monday, Oct. 17, in Richmond.

The victory gave the boys' team - made up of players from Eden Valley-Watkins, Rocori, and Paynes-ville - a record of 3-5 for the year.

Their win over Sartell was hard-fought, as the boys gave up a goal midway through the first half. But they came storming back later in the half with two quick goals from Dan Nies and Tyler Theel, both juniors at Rocori. Nies scored off a corner kick to tie the game, and Theel scored moments later to make it 2-1 at the half.

soccer The second half was tightly fought, with both teams having several scoring chances. With some solid goaltending from Kurt Peterson, a senior at Rocori, the boys held on for the victory.

Sophomore Joe Schaumann advances the ball during the Chain of Lakes' 2-1 victory over Sartell on Monday, Oct. 17, in Richmond.

The boys' team made a lot of progress this year, truly coming together as a team. Now they look forward to next year, bringing with them their experience from their first season. The team will be losing three seniors - Roger Schaumann and Joe Sheridan of Paynesville and Peterson - and two foreign exchange students - Eymard Freire de Oliveira from Brazil (Rocori) and Chavanan Manjaroenporn from Thailand (Eden Valley-Watkins).

The Chain of Lakes Soccer Club will also begin planning for next year's boys' and girls' teams at their annual meeting on Monday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. in the seminar room at Paynesville Area High School. All interested persons - players, parents, and community members - are invited to the meeting to learn more about the club and its future.
