Boys cross country takes third, goes on to Sections

On Oct. 14, Paynesville was host to the Sub Section cross country meet at Koronis Hills Golf Course. Four teams from each Sub Section advance to Sections. The Paynesville boyís varsity squad advanced by placing third. They faced state-caliber competition in Morris and some other individual runners.

Senior Dan Johnson led the Bulldogs with a 10th place finish. This qualified him individually for the Section meetó the top 10 from each Sub Section advance. Following Johnson very closely was sophomore Luke Trees. Heís been finishing closer to his potential in these last few races. Clayton Lang ran a great race on the chilly Tuesday. He led all other Bulldog runners for more than half of the race. He placed 12th.

Senior Colby Scheierl ran a season-best race finishing 18th. Adam Utsch followed Scheierl with a strong 28th place finish.

Eric Rausch, only an eighth-grader showing steady improvement, ran another fine race placing 35th. Troy Wendlandt rounded out the PHS varsity squad placing 43rd.

The next meet for the Paynesville boyís cross country team is the Section meet on Friday, Oct. 24, at Perham. The compeitition will be the finest in the state and only the top two teams, of eight, advance to the state meet.
