Morris passes past Paynesville

Football The Paynesville Bulldog football team lost 34-8 to the Morris Tigers on Friday in Morris. The Bulldogs came out flat against the Tigers, as they fumbled on the first play of the game.

The Tigers recovered, and then threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring.

On their next possession, the Bulldogs lost another fumble to the Tigers. The results were the same as the Tigers scored on a 26-yard pass play to make the score 14-0 in favor of Morris.

The Bulldogs then drove down to the Morris 18-yard line, where they lost the ball on downs. Morris scored again right before the end of the first quarter to make the score: Morris 21, Paynesville 0.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs finally woke up and pushed the Tigers all over the field. The only problem was the Dogs couldn't get in the end zone until late in the second quarter. Milan Virant scored on a one-yard run and Logan Louis passed to Nic Glenz for the two-point conversion. This made the score 21-8 at halftime. The Bulldogs had 167 total yards of offense for the second quarter, while shutting out the Tigers.

The third quarter saw the Bulldogs trying to play catch up by passing the ball a little more. Paynesville didn't have much success doing this as the Tigers intercepted two passes, which helped them score seven more points.

The fourth quarter wasn't much better for Paynesville as they threw one more interception and gave up one more touchdown to the Tigers. This made the final score: Morris 34, Paynesville 8.

Head coach Kyle Nehowig was very disappointed in the Bulldogs' effort against Morris. The offense moved the ball, but when it came time to step up and make a big play to get in the end zone, no one did it.

Defensively, the Bulldogs just did not play their positions. Everyone thinks they are going to make every play instead of just doing their assignment and playing defense as a team.

The Bulldogs will play Montevideo this Friday night for the Homecoming game. The Bulldog Boosters will be having a picnic at the field before the game, starting at 6 p.m. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
