PHS Bulldogs defeat Sauk Centre 13-6

Seth Elmhorst and Tim Knapp led the PHS Bulldogs to a 13-6 win over Sauk Centre Friday night.

Both players had outstanding games on offense and defense. Elmhorst had 105 yards rushing, scored one touchdown and had two quarterback sacks and 28 defensive points. Knapp opened up a lot of the holes for Elmhorst to run through. On defense, Knapp had a season high 19 points.

The team showed what kind of competitors they were by dominating the fourth quarter. The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters were ahead 6-3 starting the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs had trouble getting into the end zone the first half.

Bulldogs were inside Sauk Centre’s 30-yard line three times in the first half and had to settle for a 27 yard field goal by freshman J.T. Koehn, as their only points.

The defense held the Bulldogs in the game during the fourth quarter when Noah Bruntlett blocked a punt for a safety. After that, Elmhorst and the offensive line took over. Elmhorst gained 60 yards rushing in the fourth quarter. The offense gained 117 yards in the last quarter while the defense held Sauk Centre to a total of minus one yard.

Elmhorst scored the winning touchdown with three minutes left in the game on a 16 yard run behind Knapp, Lieser and Jacobson.

Paynesville will travel to Morris, taking on the undefeated Tigers (5-0) on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
