Girls win first meet in Wisconsin

The Paynesville girls' cross country placed five runners in the top 20 and won their first meet of the season on Thursday in Spooner, Wis.

The Bulldogs edged Hayward, Wis., by two points to win the meet.

Sophomore Linda Keller, who earned All State honors last year in cross country, won the race in 16:27, leading four Dogs in the top 10 and five in the top 20.

Senior Kacy Nehowig, twice an All State runner in the past, ran fifth for the Dogs.

Senior Tanis Beireis finished ninth, and sophomore Bri Jaeger finished tenth in her first cross country race.

Junior Kaitlyn Frenchick completed the Dogs' team score by finishing 17th, helping them edge Hayward 42-44 at the 13-team meet.

This week, the Dogs will run in a meet at Brooten on Thursday.
