volleyball As the school year starts, so do the fall sports. The volleyball team has done just that. After a very hard working week, they are now beginning to play with their teams and get ready for the season.

There are approximately 40 girls that came out for volleyball, so luckily there was no need to cut anyone.

The coaches for this year's teams are: Sheila Mayer-- varsity; Dawn Knoll-- junior varsity; and Traci Anderson-- C- squad.

There are 10 players on the varsity squad, but there will be other players coming up to help out.

The returners to varsity are juniors Joy Hemmesch and Steph Krupke, and seniors Tanya Lieser, Carrie Hemmesch, and Courtney Karsch. The newcomers to varsity are: Cyndi Bollman, Jenny Habben, Jenny Mayer, Jana Zumwalde, and Sara Lieser.

The girls have had two scrimmages, which both went well. These were basically to get the girls familiar with each other and find out what they need to work on.

Cyndi Bollman is one of five newcomers to the varsity squad this year.

The girls have their first game on Thursday, Sept. 2, in Litchfield and their first home game is Tuesday, Sept. 7 against Maple Lake. "I would like to continue where we left off last year and to really make a good name for Paynesville volleyball," said Coach Mayer.
