Cross country teams have high hopes for the season

Paynesville Cross Country 2003Twenty-seven energetic runners started the 2003 Paynesville cross country season.

The teams, with only one senior, Chad Wyffels, are young but ambitious. "We have a lot of younger runners and we're going to have a fun year with a lot of progress," said coach Darrel Carstens. The past has been filled with state teams, nine total, and the girls' team is returning runners from last year's state team! "We have some high goals, the kids have been great this first week," added Carstens.

Runners on the team include Chad Wyffels, Matt Mehr, Jason Wendroth, Chris Utsch, Dugan Flanders, Peder Thompson, Todd Thielen, Jamison Wall, Nathan Friedrichs, Ezra Thompson, Russell O'Fallon, Kohl Nehowig, Josh Sturtz, Kacy Nehowig, Tanis Beireis, Krista Wendroth, Kaitlyn Frenchick, Melanie Koerner, Sheena Hoekstra, Lindsay Wyffels, Trisha Wendlandt, Morgan Kern, Reanne Zimmerman, Tarin Beireis, Allie Wendroth, Shanna Hoekstra, and Kelly Herzberg.

The teams will start the competitive season at the Morris Invite on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Coach Carstens will be assisted by Todd Spanier this year and they hope to add new runners. All 6-12 graders interested should join now to be ready for the season.
