Fall sports practices start Monday

Practices for high school sports will start on Monday, Aug. 14.

Cross country for grades 7-12, football for grades 9-12, and volleyball for grades 9-12 will all start Monday. Seventh and eighth grade football and volleyball will begin when school starts.

Interested participants will need to complete some requirements before they can begin practicing with their respective teams. All athletes must pay their athletic fee, must have had a physical within three years, and must sign their Minnesota State High School League eligibility form.

The athletic fee for grades 9-12 is $25 per sport. For middle school athletes, the fee is $15. The maximum fee per family is $120.

Most seventh graders will need a physical before starting practice. Those students who had a physical before seventh grade will need another before entering tenth grade.

Eligibility forms can be obtained and returned at the high school office.

Volleyball practice starts on Monday morning at 7:45 a.m. For the week, the team will practice from 8 to 11 a.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. Coaches are Sheila Mayer (varsity), Dawn Knoll (B-squad), and Traci Anderson (C-squad).

Football players need to be at the school at 4 p.m. on Monday to get their helmets. Practice lasts from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Coaches are Kyle Nehowig (varsity), Ron Fuchs (assistant), Tim Woehler (assistant), and Jerry Hunt (ninth grade).

Cross country runners should meet at the high school track at 7 p.m. on Monday. Cross country coaches are Darrel Carstens (varsity) and Rick Houske (assistant).
