Two high school fall sports begin Aug. 16

Cross country practice starts for grades 7-12
The 1999 Paynesville Area Schools cross country season will begin on Aug. 16, at 7 p.m., on the high school track. All interested participants in grades 7-12 should report at that time. All athletes should take care of physicals, eligibility sheets, and fees through the athletic office.

The great tradition of Paynesville cross country teams will be put on the line starting with the Morris Invite on Aug. 31. Other meets will be the BBE Invite on Sept. 9; the LPGE Invite on Sept. 13; the NL-S Invite on Sept. 16; the worldÕs largest cross country meet at Princeton on Sept. 25; the Koronis Invitational on Sept. 30; and the Sauk Invite on Oct. 5. The conference meet will be at Sauk Centre on Oct. 14. Sub-sections are on Oct. 19, sections on Oct. 28, and state on Nov. 6.

All runners (junior high, junior varsity, and varsity) are encouraged to start the season, prepared for fun, on Aug. 16. If anyone has questions or concerns they can contact coach Darrel Carstens at 243-4648.

Football practice begins for high school students
Monday, Aug. 16, 4-8 p.m.
Tuesday-Friday, Aug. 17-20, 5-8 p.m.
Monday-Thursday, Aug. 23-26, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. (9th grade until 11 a.m.)
Friday, Aug. 27, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. (9th grade scrimmage)
Saturday, Aug. 28, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (10th-12th grade scrimmage)

All players must have the following completed before they are able to practice:
1. Eligibility form signed by parents and player. These are available at the high school.
2. A physical within the last three years. Usually 7th and 10th grades.
3. The players must have paid the $20 athletic fee.
