Lakers beat Richmond, win south division playoff

Lake Henry jumped to a 7-0 lead against Richmond on Sunday and beat the Royals 10-1 to take the top seed for the Stearns County League South into the Region 15C tourney.

Both Lake Henry and Richmond will play in the Region 15C tourney, starting Saturday in New Munich.

The Lakers took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first on Sunday as Josh Kampsen singled and scored and Jeff Schmitz added an RBI single later in the inning.

Josh Ryan Wuertz hit a three-run homer for the Lakers in the second inning, and Pat Mohs hit a three-run homer in the seventh for Lake Henry.

Josh Kampsen had three hits for Lake Henry on Sunday, which beat Richmond 10-1 and advances to regions as the south division champs.

Mike Stalboerger pitched six innings, allowing one run, for the win on the hill.

By beating Richmond, the Lakers clinched the #1 seed from the Stearns County League South for the region playoffs. They also got to draft first, picking pitcher Ryan Nett of St. Martin and then pitcher Nathan Schlangen of St. Martin. Richmond chose pitcher Ken Arceneau of St. Martin and pitcher Brent Heinen of Roscoe.

Lake Henry (20-5) will play New London-Spicer on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 3 p.m. at New Munich in their opening game in the Region 15C tournament. If they win, they will play either New Munich or Richmond on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. If they lose, they will play either Norway Lake-Sunburg or Greenwald on Sunday at 3 p.m.

NL-S 6, Regal 4
Norway Lake-Sunburg built a 6-1 lead and beat Regal 6-4 on Saturday, eliminating the Eagles from the Cornbelt League playoffs.

Norway-Lake Sunburg led 3-1 before scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Regal scored three runs in the top of the eighth to make the final score 6-4.

Norway Lake-Sunburg proceeded to beat New London-Spicer twice on Sunday and advanced to the Region 15C tourney as the top seed from the Cornbelt League.

Regal finished their season 9-15.
