Junior Legion competes in state tourney

The Paynesville Junior American Legion baseball team went 1-2 at the state tournament last week, held in St. Louis Park.

On Tuesday, they beat Bloomington Gold 12-3 with Ted Hoffman pitching six innings and Keegan Meagher pitching the last inning. Brett Savelkoul had two hits for Paynesville, and Mike Wendlandt had the only extra-base hit, a double. Other players with hits were Shane Kampsen, Meagher, Colby Peterson, and Colin Spooner.

On Wednesday, the Junior Legion lost to Hopkins 12-0 with Riley Sampson starting and Meagher pitching in relief.

On Friday, they lost to St. Louis Park 3-2 with Hoffman throwing a complete game. Paynesville had four hits, including an RBI single by Kampsen, in the game. Others with hits were Jake Deadrick, Meagher, and Savelkoul.

The Junior Legion baseball team ended their season with a record of 8-8.
