Lakers Pitcher The Lakers jumped to a 5-0 lead after two innings, and pitchers Roger Wuertz and Mike Stalboerger made it stand up by combining on a shutout, as Lake Henry beat Farming to claim the South Division title of the Stearns County League. Both teams advance to the regional tournament next weekend in New Munich.

Lake Henry scored four times in the second inning, including a three-run homer by shortstop Doug Fuchs, who also turned two double plays.

Wuertz threw the first six innings, allowing only four hits. Stalboerger stranded the runners after entering the game with runners on first and second in the seventh. He did not allow a hit.

Roger Wuertz pitched six shutout innings for Lake Henry against Farming on Sunday. The Lakers advance to regions as the Southern Division champion in the Stearns County League.

The Lakers threatened to increase their lead late in the game but hit into two line-drive double plays to end scoring threats.

The Lakers, now 15-5, drafted pitcher Ken Arceneau and catcher Jake Thielen from St. Martin to help them try to earn a repeat trip to state at the regional tournament at New Munich. Farming drafted St. Martin pitcher Sam Rothstein and Roscoe pitcher Brent Heinen.

The Lakers open the tournament against Meire Grove on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. Farming plays the Sauk Rapids Cyclones oat 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

If the Lakers win, they play the Farming/Sauk Rapids winner on Sunday at 10 a.m. If they lose, they play the New Munich/Becker winner on Sunday at 12:30 p.m

The Paynesville Pirates ended their season one win away from the region tournament. The Sauk Centre Titans earned the second regional berth from the County Line League by beating the Pirates 7-0 on Saturday, July 28.

Sauk Centre blasted their way to victory, using three homers to plate all seven of their runs.

Jake Meridian started the fireworks for Sauk Centre with a two-run homer in the second. Joe Frederichs hit a three-run homer in the third, and Joe Moritz added another two-run shot in the fourth.

The Lakers' Chad Spanier slides into second to break up a double play as a Farming fielder prepares to throw to first during Lake Henry's 5-0 victory on Sunday.

The Pirates, meanwhile, managed only six hits against Titan hurlers Rob Mettenburg and Scott Nelson. Nelson earned the victory with six innings of shutout relief.

Jason Schlecht pitched three plus innings of shutout relief for the Pirates.

Sauk Centre beat Melrose 8-5 on Sunday to advance to regions as the County Line League champion. Melrose advances as the runner-up.

The Pirates end their season with a record of 15-8, including six losses to either Sauk Centre or Melrose.
