Legion baseball tourney to be held in Paynesville

For the third year in a row, Paynesville will host a district American Legion baseball tournament this weekend. Eight teams will vie for a single berth from the district to the state tournament.

The district tournament uses a single elimination format. Four games will be played on Friday, Aug. 3, and another three on Saturday, Aug. 4.

Games on Friday start at noon on the high school field. Other games are scheduled for 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Paynesville is scheduled to play Baudette at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night.

Semifinal games on Saturday are at 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., with the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

The winner advances to the state tournament, which will be held in Willmar starting on Friday, Aug. 10.

Friday, Aug. 3
12 noon - Sauk Centre vs. Bertha-Hewitt
2:30 p.m. - Ironton vs. Kimball
5 p.m. - Aitkin vs. St. Augusta
7:30 p.m. - Paynesville vs. Baudette

Saturday, Aug. 4
2:30 p.m. - Semifinals
5 p.m. - Semifinals
(Paynesville would play at 5 p.m. if they win on Friday.)
7:30 p.m. - District championship
