District American Legion tournament to be held

For the fourth year in a row, Paynesville will host the Division II Sixth District American Legion Baseball Tournament this weekend.

The eight-team tournament will start on Friday at noon and end on Saturday. Paynesville, as the host, is automatically an entrant in the tournament.

The tournament is single elimination. All eight teams will play opening round games on Friday. Baudette will play Holdingford at 12 noon, Cross Lake will play Kimball at 2:15 p.m., St. Augusta will play Royalton at 4:30 p.m., and Paynesville will play either Bertha-Hewitt or Sebeka at 7 p.m.

Semifinal games on Saturday will be held at 12 noon and 2:30 p.m. The championship game will be held on Saturday at 5 p.m. The winner will advance to the Division II state tournament in Willmar in August.

Paynesville has made three trips to state in Legion baseball since 1997, finishing second once and taking third twice.
