Lake Henry beats St. Martin again

Stearns County League

Lake Henry 9
St. Martin 4

Congratulations The Lake Henry Lakers have beaten St. Martin three times so far this season, the latest coming courtesy of a seven-run sixth inning on Sunday in Lake Henry. The Lakers, after advancing to the state tournament for the first time in 25 years last August, would be disappointed without a fourth victory over St. Martin.

They get a chance this Sunday, when the two Stearns County League teams play the second game in their best-of-three playoff series. With their 9-4 victory Sunday, the Lakers are one win from another berth in regions.

St. Martin needs to sweep the last two games of the series to advance. The Lakers beat Sam Rothstein and Ken Arceneau - who both pitched for the Lakers last year in the playoffs after being drafted from St. Martin - on Sunday.

After three scoreless innings, the Lakers took a 1-0 lead with a run in the fourth, but St. Martin took a 2-1 lead in the fifth.

Lake Henry tied the score at 2-2 with a run in the bottom of the fifth and broke the game open with seven runs -three unearned - in the sixth. Ryan Wuertz hit a two-run homer for the Lakers in the sixth.

Ben Bork and Jon Lieser also had two RBIs apiece for Lake Henry.

On the hill, Roger Wuertz pitched six innings to earn the victory for the Lakers. Mike Stalboerger allowed only one run in three innings of relief.

The teams play again on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in St. Martin.
