Martins top Rangers on pair of homers

St. Martin 4, Roscoe 0
Batter St. Martin got two-run homers in the first and second innings and beat Roscoe 4-0 to conclude the regular season in the Stearns County League on Sunday in St. Martin. Sam Rothstein hit a two-run homer in the first inning for St. Martin, and Jesse Thielen hit a two-run homer in the second.

Three St. Martin pitchers - Ken Arceneau, Luke Rothstein, and Tim Schaefer - combined to shut out Roscoe on six hits.

The Martins finished the regular season league schedule with a record of 11-2, best in the league. The loss dropped Roscoe, which started 6-0 in league, to 7-6, third in the South Division of the Stearns County League.

Richmond, which beat Farming 9-4 on Sunday, improved to 8-5 and took second in the South Division. Farming, 6-7, took fourth.

The playoffs start next week, with St. Martin facing Farming in a best two-out-of-three series and Roscoe facing Richmond.

St. Martin will play an exhibition game at Sartell on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and then they will open the playoffs against Farming on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in St. Martin.

Roscoe will play at Richmond on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

St. Martin improved to 17-8 overall, while Roscoe fell to 9-10.

Norway Lake 8, Paynesville 4
Norway Lake scored three runs in both the first and second innings, getting a three-run homer from Paul Gjerde, and beat Paynesville 8-4 in a Cornbelt League game on Sunday in Norway Lake.

The Pirates finished their league schedule with a record of 4-6. They will start the playoffs next week with a rematch against Norway Lake on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Jason Roepke pitched eight innings for Norway Lake, striking out ten. Nate Schutz pitched four innings of relief for the Pirates, yielding only one run.

Lake Henry 3, Greenwald 2
The Lakers completed their season with a 3-2 victory over Greenwald on Sunday in Lake Henry.

Scott Klaphake hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth to score Herb Weidner, who led off the inning with a double, with the winning run.

Greenwald took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run single by Craig Schaefer. The Lakers tied the score at 2-2 with a run in the fifth and another in the sixth, which came via a solo homerun by Ryan Wuertz.

Doug Fuchs earned the pitching victory for Lake Henry with four innings of shutout relief of starter Mike Stalboerger.

The Lakers finished the season 8-10 overall and 5-8 in the Stearns County League. They finished one game behind Farming (6-7) in the South Division standings and missed the playoffs.
