Fenske wins Green Lake road race

Paynesville native Joel Fenske won the Green Lake road race Saturday morning for the second consecutive year. Fenske, an All-American cross-country and track runner during his four years at the University of South Dakota, had a time of 1:10.45 on the 12.4-mile course. Last year, on a shorter 12.1-mile course, his time was 1:06.32. Clayton Lang finished fifth overall in the menÕs race and won the 15-19 age group with a time of 1:14.58.

In the womenÕs race, Tina (Lang) Fenske finished fourth with a time of 1:25.31 after leading the race for the first two miles. Jenny Hess was fifth in the womenÕs race, 31 seconds behind Fenske. Hess was third in the 15-19 age group.

Joel and Tina Fenske won the 20-29 age group for both the men and the women.

Nearly 200 runners finished the 12-mile race. Other runners from Paynesville were Riley Flanders, Mike Elmhorst, Dave Scott, and Diane Hoyme.
