Mackedanz qualifies for state amateur

Mitchell Mackedanz, a 2005 PAHS grad and a member of the men's golf team at Bemidji State University, has qualified for the 103rd Minnesota Golf Association (MGA) Amateur Championship.

Mackedanz shot 70 at the Lynx National Golf Course in Sauk Centre on Thursday, June 29, to qualify for the state amateur championship. Shooting 36-34=70 for one-under-par, Mackedanz placed second among 53 golfers at the qualifier. The top nine qualified for the state amateur with the next three being alternates.

Tyler Whiting of Alexandria Golf Club shot three-under-par 68 to win the qualifier.

Sam Warzecha, also representing Koronis Hills Golf Club, shot five-over-par 39-37=76 at the qualifier and tied for 16th.

The 103rd MGA Amateur Championship will be held at Midland Hills Country Club in St. Paul on July 17-19. The 156-player field will play 18 holes on Monday, July 17, and Tuesday, July 18, with the field being narrowed to the top 60 scorers for the final 18 holes on Wednesday, July 19.
