Roscoe rallies to beat Lake Henry

For the second Saturday in a row, the Roscoe Rangers knocked off a leader in the Stearns County League South. A week after beating St. Martin 4-3, the Rangers rallied to beat Lake Henry 9-7 on Saturday in Roscoe.

Justin Mackedanz The win moved the Rangers (3-9) into fourth place in the Stearns County League South and dropped the Lakers (7-5) a game behind St. Martin (8-4).

For the second straight week, Justin Mackedanz pitched a complete game for the Roscoe Rangers, who beat Lake Henry 9-7 on Saturday.

Lake Henry batted around in the top of the first, scoring five runs, but Roscoe erased that 5-0 deficit by batting around in the bottom of the first and scoring seven runs. Lake Henry tied the game 7-7 with two runs in the top of the second.

The game remained tied at 7-7 until the bottom of the eighth inning when Roscoe scored two runs for the 9-7 win. Russ Leyendecker's RBI single scored Brett Savelkoul with the go-ahead run, and Brent Heinen followed with another RBI single.

That rally ended a duel between Justin Mackedanz, on the mound for Roscoe, and Roger Wuertz, who pitched seven innings in relief for Lake Henry. Mackedanz, after allowing seven runs in the first two innings, pitched seven shutout innings for the Rangers. He also pitched ten innings to beat St. Martin the week before.

With the win, the Rangers moved a game behind Farming (4-8) and a game ahead of Richmond (2-10) in the Stearns County South. The Rangers will play at Richmond on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with a win clinching the final playoff spot for the Rangers.

The Lakers will host Greenwald on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in their final regular season league game.

St. Martin 4, Richmond 1
St. Martin regained the lead in the Stearns County League South by beating Richmond 4-1 on Saturday in St. Martin.

The Martins (8-4) - who beat Lake Henry 10-9 the week before in 11 innings to move into a first-place tie - moved a game ahead of the Lakers by winning on Sunday, while the Lakers lost (7-5) at Roscoe.

The Martins scored two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the third to take a 4-0 lead on Sunday.

Ryan Nett pitched six shutout innings for the Martins to earn the pitching victory. Richmond scored their only run in the top of the ninth against reliever Scott Schlangen, who earned a save by pitching the final three innings.

This week, the Martins will play at Avon on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., they will host Raymond on Saturday at 1 p.m., and they will play at Farming for their final league game on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Regal 7, NL-S 4
The Regal Eagles won three games last week, including a 7-4 league victory over New London-Spicer on Saturday, to even their season record at 9-9.

Against New London-Spicer in a Cornbelt League game, the lead was exchanged for the first four innings. NL-S took a 1-0 lead in the first; Regal answered with two runs in the second, going ahead 2-1; NL-S responded with three runs in the third for a 4-2 lead; and Regal took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, going ahead 5-4.

The Eagles added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Shane Radermacher pitched seven shutout innings in relief for the pitching victory for Regal, allowing only one hit.

Regal (4-8 in league and 9-9 overall) also beat Lake Henry 2-1 on Wednesday, June 28, and Greenwald 7-1 on Friday, June 30, last week.

In two league games this week, Regal will play at Willmar on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and will host Raymond on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
