Lakers top Richmond with three-run eighth

Lake Henry rallied at home to beat Richmond 9-6 on Sunday in the Stearns County League.

Trailing 6-4, the Lakers tied the game on Jeff Schmitz's two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, took the lead with Jon Lieser's solo shot with two outs in the eighth inning and scored two more runs to win 9-6.

Josh Kampsen also hit a two-run homer for the Lakers in the second inning, when Lake Henry scored four runs. Jon Dold hit a two-run homer for Richmond in the first inning, and Jeron Lieser hit a two-run homer for Richmond in the fourth.

Doug Fuchs pitched a complete game to earn the victory for Lake Henry, now 7-4 in league and 10-9 overall. Fuchs also had three hits.

This week, the Lakers will play at New Munich on Friday, July 4, at 1:30 p.m. They will play at St. Martin on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

St. Martin 2, Farming 2
Nathan Beier singled home Craig Hennen in the bottom of the ninth as St. Martin earned their tenth straight league victory with a 3-2 victory over Farming on Sunday.

St. Martin, now 10-1 in league, has not lost a league game since losing their opener to Greenwald. The Martins are 17-4 overall.

St. Martin took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, but Farming rallied to tie the score 2-2 with a run in the seventh and another in the eighth.

Hennen reached on a wild pitch in the ninth inning and scored on a single by Beier.

Ken Arceneau allowed only three hits while striking out 11 in seven innings. Sam Rothstein pitched two innings in relief and earned the pitching victory.

This week, the Martins will play at Melrose on Wednesday, July 2, at 6:30 p.m. The Martins will play at Richmond on Friday, July 4, at 1:30 p.m., and they will host Lake Henry on Sunday, July 6, at 1:30 p.m.

Elrosa 4, Roscoe 6
Roscoe led twice, but Elrosa rallied to win in 11 innings, putting the Rangers' playoff hopes in doubt.

Chris VanderBeek hit a two-run homer in the second inning to give Roscoe a 2-0 lead. Then, after Elrosa tied the score 2-2, they scored a run in the top of the eighth off Elrosa ace Aaron Vogt to take a 3-2 lead.

But Elrosa tied the game, sending it to extra innings, and then won the game 4-3 with an unearned run in the 11th inning, stealing third and then scoring on a throwing error.

Roscoe, now 3-8 in league, trails fourth-place Farming by two games in the south division of the Stearns County League with two league games to go. This week, Roscoe will play at Farming on Friday, July 4, at 1:30 p.m. and will host Richmond on Sunday, July 6, at 1:30 p.m.

New London 7, Pirates 4
New London jumped to a 6-1 lead and held on to beat the Paynesville Pirates 7-4 on Sunday in Paynesville.

The Pirates scored three runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 6-4 but were unable to score in their last three at bats.

The Pirates are now 3-7 in the Corn Belt League and 4-8 overall.

This week, the Pirates will host Regal on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates will play at Sacred Heart on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and will play at Bird Island on Sunday night starting around 5 p.m.
