Hess completes junior year

hessJen Hess, a 2002 PAHS grad, recently completed her junior track season at the University of Minnesota. Hess has now lettered for three years in cross country and for two years in track for the Gophers.

For the second straight year, Hess earned Academic All Big Ten honors in track for carrying a GPA of 3.0 or better. (Athletes are not eligible for this award until their second varsity season.) Hess is a junior nursing major at the U of M.

Highlights of Hess's 2005 indoor season included: finishing 13th in the 3,000-meter run at the Big Ten Championships in February at Ann Arbor, Mich., with a time of 10:08.81; winning the open mile at Parents' Day in February at the U of M Fieldhouse in a personal-best time of 5:03.72; and clocking the team's fastest time in the 5,000-meter run (17:27.83).

In the 2005 outdoor season, Hess clocked the team's fastest time in the 10,000-meter run (37:48.20) and placed 15th at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships at Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, in May. The Gophers were fourth at the outdoor Big Ten meet and third at the indoor Big Ten meet this year.
