Baseball team qualifies for state

13-year-old team The Paynesville Lakers 13-year-old baseball team won four of five games at a state-qualifying tournament in Marshall on June 16 and 17 to earn a berth in the state tournament.

Paynesville defeated Willmar 23-1, Chaska 17-5, New Ulm 10-2, and Chaska again 5-3 to take third place in the tournament. Their only loss was 3-2 to Marshall.

Qualifying for the state tournament on the 13-year-old baseball team are: (kneeling) Derek Looman, Justin Bork, Trent Hansen, John Hemingson, Derek Stanger, and Ross Barten; (standing) coach Rick Paul, Jamie Paul, Mark Andrie, Sean Glenz, Ryan hess, and coach Dan Stanger. Not pictured is coach Dale Hess.

The third-place finish qualified the team for the Class B state tournament. That tournament will be held in Marshall from July 27-29.

Team members are Mark Andrie, Ross Barten, Justin Bork, Sean Glenz, Trent Hansen, Ryan Hess, John Hemingson, Derek Looman, Jamie Paul, and Derek Stanger. Coaches are Dale Hess, Rick Paul, and Dan Stanger.
