Boy tracksters look forward to next spring

This article submitted by Josh Jones on 6/23/99.

The 1999 Paynesville boys' track season has long been over. This article is just a recap on what has already been covered.< P> Coaches for this year were head coach Kyle Nehowig and assistant coach Scott George.< P> Captains for this year were Josh Jones and Troy Wendlandt.

These two guys had it pretty easy most of the time. It wasn't very often that someone got out of line on this year's team. They were a great bunch of guys to work with.< P> Next year, captains will be senior Jeff Voss and junior Clayton Lang. Both of these gentlemen are fit for the job.< P> Voss placed sixth in the state meet and is one of the hardest workers on the team.

Lang is also a great competitor and is also one of the hardest workers on the team.

Two school records were broken this year.

Josh Jones broke his own record in the triple jump at 42'2". Had Paynesville been in any other section in either class, except one, he would have qualified for the state meet.

The other school record was by the 1,600-meter relay team of Eric Rausch, Luke Trees, Voss, and Jones. Their time was 3:29.51. This also broke a 19-year-old sub-section record.

More than likely, this team would have had more members qualify for state if the track at regions in Melrose had not been 12 meters too long.

Overall, the team this year did very well and even won a few meets, which hasn't been done in quite a while. The boys' team even won one meet and the girls' team lost. Needless to say, after that the girls' team got teased.

The boys' also took second place in the conference behind Litchfield. This was one of the biggest moments of the year for the guys.

Good luck to the guys next year!
