St. Martin tops Lake Henry 4-2

St. Martin moved into a tie for first place in the Stearns County League South Division by handing Lake Henry their first league loss on Saturday in St. Martin.

The Martins scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the make-up game 4-2.

play at plate With the score tied 2-2 and with two outs in the sixth inning, the Martins (8-1 in league) put together four straight hits. Nathan Beier and Nathan Schlangen singled and scored on hits by Jake Thelen and Sam Rothstein. The Lakers (also 8-1 in league) got the final out of the inning by throwing out a runner at home on an attempted double steal. St. Martin took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, scoring one run on a sacrifice fly and another on two-out single by Josh Harrison.

The Lakers, who won their first seven league games this year, tied the score with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth inning, scoring both times on sacrifice flies. Ken Arceaneau, who had the game's only extra-base hit, pitched a complete game for St. Martin.

This week, Lake Henry will play Sauk Centre at Elrosa on Thursday at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the Lakers will play at Richmond at 1:30 p.m.

St. Martin will play at Farming on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Regal 9, Paynesville 7
Regal scored four runs in the top of the third inning and held on to beat the Paynesville Pirates 9-7 on Wednesday, June 16, in a Cornbelt League game.

Josh Eckstein delivered an RBI double, and Ryan Schneider hit a two-out, two-run single in the third inning, as Regal took a 6-3 lead.

Chris Rohe stops ball Shannon Olmscheid hit a two-run homer for the Pirates in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit to 6-5. Regal (3-5 in league) scored on Josh Krupke's RBI triple in the fourth inning to make it 7-5. Krupke singled and scored in the seventh to make it 8-5.

Regal's Chris Rohe fields the throw at second as Paynesville's Justin Butkofski slides in safely. Regal beat Paynesville 9-7 last week.

Justin Butkofski doubled and scored in the seventh for Paynesville, but Chris Beier hit an RBI single in the eighth inning to make it 9-6 for Regal.

The Pirates (5-4 in league) brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but scored only one run, making the final 9-7.

Beier, in his first amateur pitching appearance, threw seven innings in relief, allowing only two runs to get the pitching victory.

This week, Paynesville will host Bird Island on Wednesday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. They will play at New London on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Regal will play at Willmar on Wednesday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. They will play at Granite Falls on Friday at 9:15 p.m.

St. Martin 3, Roscoe 2
Jesse Thelen hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning as St. Martin rallied to beat Roscoe 3-2 on Sunday in a Stearns County League game in St. Martin.

With the game tied 2-2, Thelen hit a solo homer to provide the Martins with the winning run.

Roscoe (2-8 in league) had taken a 1-0 lead until Sam Rothstein hit a solo homer in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1. After St. Martin scored again in the fifth inning, Bret Aagesen hit a solo homer for Roscoe in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 2-2.

Luke Rothstein pitched a complete game for St. Martin, allowing only two runs while striking out ten.

This week, Roscoe will host Elrosa on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Lake Henry 13, Farming 8
Lake Henry scored three runs in the first inning on their way to building a 12-2 lead and beating Farming 13-8 on Sunday in Lake Henry.

Jeff Schmitz, Doug Fuchs, and Adam Miller had RBI singles in the first inning for Lake Henry.

Ryan Wuertz hit a two-run homer in the second inning for the Lakers, Josh Kampsen's two-run homer highlighted a four-run fourth inning, and Jon Lieser's solo homer and an RBI double by Adam Kampsen were the big blows in a three-run sixth inning.

Lake Henry led 12-2 at that point, but Farming scored six runs in their final three at bats, making the final score 13-8.

Paynesville 9, Sacred Heart 3
The Pirates scored two runs in three consecutive innings to beat Sacred Heart in Paynesville on Sunday in a Cornbelt League game.

Brad Deyak hit a solo homer in the fifth inning and had two hits for the Pirates. Steve Barten, Adam Hemmesch, Shannon Olmscheid, and Nathan Schutz also had two hits each for Paynesville.

Olmscheid pitched a complete game for the Pirates, allowing only two earned runs.
