Martins, Rangers win in league again

St. Martin 7, Lake Henry 2
The St. Martin Martins won their eighth game in the Stearns County League on Sunday, defeating Lake Henry 7-2 in St. Martin.

Jesse Thelen broke a scoreless tie with three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. The Martins added a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh, as they handed Lake Henry their seventh league loss of the season.

Ken Arceneau pitched seven shutout innings for St. Martin. The Lakers were finally able to score two runs against reliever Chad Rothstein, one in the eighth and another in the ninth.

The Martins are now 13-6-1 for the season and 8-2 in league, where they hold a game advantage over Roscoe in the South Division of the Stearns County League. They have already clinched a playoff spot.

Lake Henry fell to 3-7 in league.

This week, St. Martin plays at Avon on Wednesday, June 19, at 6:30 p.m., and they play at Farming on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

The Lakers play at Luxemburg on Wednesday, June 19, at 6:30 p.m., and they will host Roscoe on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The Stearns County League All Star Game will be played in Elrosa on Friday at 8:15 p.m.

Roscoe 3, Richmond 2
The Rangers completed a season sweep of Richmond, beating the Royals 3-2 in Roscoe on Sunday. The Rangers improved their league record to 7-3 with the victory, trailing St. Martin by one game in the South Division of the Stearns County League.

Roscoe missed the playoffs a year ago, but clinched a playoff spot with the victory. Richmond fell to 5-5 in league.

The Rangers rallied for the victory, letting Richmond take an early 2-0 lead and then scoring a run in the third and two in the sixth. Richmond had only five hits but drew nine walks. The Royals left 14 runners on base.

Brent Heinen earned the pitching victory with four innings of shutout relief of starter Justin Mackedanz.

This week, Roscoe will play at Lake Henry on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The Rangers lost their third exhibition game of the season to Avon at home on Friday, June 14. The Rangers are now 7-3 in league and 0-3 in exhibitions.

The Rangers lost by yielding a run in the ninth inning and despite outhitting Avon 9-5.
