Tina Fenske takes fourth and sixth at nationals

Tina (Lang) Fenske was one of a trio of University of South Dakota track athletes who took home a fourth place finish at the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships, held May 27-29 in Emporia, Kan.

Fenske finished fourth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:49.17, which bettered her previous school record of 9:55.91 set last year. She also was sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:29.26.

South Dakota's women placed seventh in the team standings with 29 points, and the USD men were 37th with four points. Abilene Christian swept the men's (93) and women's (145) team titles.

Fenske is being nominated by her school for the NCAA Woman of the Year. The finalists will be announced in September.
