Girls' golfing duo ends season at section tourney

Sophomore Marissa Mackedanz and junior Amber Jensen ended their spring golf season by playing in the Section 5A tournament at Rich-Spring Golf Course on Tuesday, May 31. Neither advanced to state.

Mackedanz shot 94 over 18 holes and missed a state berth by five strokes. Jensen shot 101 to finish another seven strokes back.

Conference rivals Albany and Sauk Centre battled for the team title, with the Huskies beating the Streeters by ten strokes to advance to state. Senior Lindsey Wellenstein - who won the individual title in the West Central Conference North this year - was the meet medalist at 79.

In addition to Albany as a team, of the five individuals to qualify for state from Section 5A four were from the WCC North: Jenna Schurman of Sauk Centre, 83; Amy Hintzen of Sauk, 86; Briana Bruce of Cathedral, 87; Brianna Radtke of LPGE, 88; and Christina Siemers of Becker, 89.

On the boys' side, only Bjorn Hanson of LPGE qualified for state from the WCC North, tying for third individually at 77.

Both Mackedanz and Jensen competed at sections in golf for the first time.
