By Michael Jacobson

Paynesville's Nathan Glenz and Sally Heitke, both juniors, competed in the Section 5A golf meet on Tuesday, May 29, at the Rich-Spring Golf Course between Richmond and Cold Spring.

Neither player finished in the top five to advance to state.

Glenz fired an 84 over 18 holes to finish six strokes away from state qualification. The boys' medalist, Ryan Ebnet from Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, shot a 76, and the last state spot went to a 78.

Heitke shot a 104 and finished 11 strokes out of state qualification. Sauk Centre's Jackie Beste, who also shot a 76, was the girls' medalist. The last state spot went to Beste's teammate, Beth Welle, who shot a 93.

The West Central Conference North fared very well at the section meet. Both medalists came from the conference, and LPGE won the boys' title and will advance to state. LPGE beat Glencoe-Silver Lake by four strokes, 320-324. LPGE won the boys' conference title this spring.

The Albany boys' team, which finished fourth in the conference, finished third in the section.

The Sauk Centre girls were the conference runner-up and the section runner-up, but advanced two individuals to state. Becker beat Sauk Centre by one stroke, 364-365.
