Hess, Mackedanz earn conference honors

Ashley Mackedanz stealingThe Bulldogs softball officially wrapped up their season with a banquet at the city beach last Wednesday.

The Dogs ended the season with a record of 6-14, including 4-6 in conference, and a team batting average of .281.

Senior Ashley Mackedanz earned All Conference honors this spring for the softball team, hitting .371 and stealing 18 bases.

Kim Hess catching Senior Ashley Mackedanz and sophomore Kim Hess earned All Conference honors for the Dogs. Mackedanz, who played left field, batted .371 for the Dogs while hitting four triples and stealing 18 bases.

Hess, who played shortstop, batted .407 with a homerun, two triples, and two doubles, along with 17 stolen bases. She also drew 19 bases on balls and had an on-base percentage of .568. Hess also earned All Conference honors for the second straight year.

Earning honorable mention honors from the West Central Conference North were seniors Ann Stalboerger and Trish Chevalier and sophomore Kayla Mackedanz. Mackedanz hit .407, Stalboerger hit .373 and led the team with 19 RBIs, and Chevalier hit .267.

The team voted on three Gatorade Will To Win Athlete Awards. Chevalier was elected Player of the Year, while her younger sister, sophomore Amber Chevalier earned Rookie of the Year. Sophomore Val Callenius earned Will to Win Athlete.

Sophomore shortstop Kim Hess earned All Conference honors in softball for the second straight year, hitting .407 this spring.

The Dogs will be losing four seniors - Chevalier, Mackedanz, Stalboerger, and Susie Swyter - but the remaining team members are already looking to next season by planning to play in leagues this summer.
