Delano eliminates Dogs
The Bulldogs lost 5-2 in their first subsection softball game against Delano on Monday, May 20, and were eliminated from the playoffs. |
The Tigers started off well in the first inning when pitcher Caryn Grinnell hit a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. She then scored on a base hit.

The next batter struck out for the first out. Senior Lisa Hemingson added a strikeout victim when she threw her changeup to fan the batter. The runner on first attempted to steal but was thrown out by catcher Jen Habben to give the Bulldogs the third out.
In the third inning, the Bulldogs tied the game at 1-1. Senior Amy Buermann started the rally by hitting a single past first base. Kim Hiltner was then brought in to be a pinch runner. Hiltner scored on senior Kelli Heinen's hit down the third base line.
Tied 1-1, Delano took control of the game in the bottom of the third inning, when they scored four runs, with the Bulldogs committing two errors.
In the fifth inning, junior Ashley Mackedanz had a hit into right field and went to second on ninth grader Kayla Mackedanz's sacrifice bunt. Ashley Mackedanz then scored on Kim Hess' hit.
Hess stole second and senior Laurie Barten hit a line drive towards the second baseman, who caught it and tagged Hess out to make a double play for the Tigers.
"The girls played a good game, and I'm very proud of them," said coach Tim Woehler. "Delano made the plays when they had to and it just took us too long to start hitting the ball."
Neither team scored after the fifth inning, which gave Delano a 5-2 victory.
The Bulldogs finished the season with a record of 8-10.
