Heather Schmitt, daughter of Tony and Jan Schmitt of Paynesville, is a member of the golf team at the College of Saint Benedict. Schmitt is a junior accounting major. "The Blazers finished the year with a disappointing spring. The team was not at full strength," said coach Theresa Solarz. "But we did manage to finish the year ranked seventh in Division III and fourth in the West District."

"Heather finished third in the West District individually and just missed qualifying for nationals," continued Solarz. "She was voted MVP for the third straight year by her teammates. She continues to lead the team on and off the course. Heather was personally disappointed with her rounds this spring and already has begun looking forward to fall."

A member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the College of Saint Benedict competes in 10 intercollegiate sports. It is a private, liberal arts, Catholic Benedictine college of 1,900 students, located in St. Joseph. It is joined in a coordinate mission with Saint John's University for men.
