St. Martin tops Farming in 11th

Jesse Thelen hit a solo homer in the top of the 11th inning as St. Martin rallied to beat Farming 3-2 on Sunday. The Martins remained unbeaten (4-0) in the Stearns County League South with the win.

Farming had taken a 2-0 lead with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth, but the Martins tied the game at 2-2 with two unearned runs in the eighth inning, forcing extra innings, with Thelen getting the winning hit in the 11th inning.

Nathan Schlangen pitched five shutout innings for St. Martin to earn the pitching victory in relief of starter Ken Arceneau.

Ted Nett, who teaches in Paynes-ville, started and pitched nine innings for Farming, allowing only two unearned runs.

This week, the Martins will play at Regal on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., will host Spring Hill on Saturday in St. Martin at 1:30 p.m., and will play at Greenwald on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Lake Henry 16, New Munich 10
The Lake Henry Lakers built a 11-2 lead and beat New Munich 16-10 on Sunday in New Munich to improve to 3-1 in the Stearns County League South.

The Lakers took the lead with six runs in the third inning. After a leadoff single by Pat Mohs, the Silverstreaks botched two sacrifice bunts by the Lakers. Adam Kampsen and Mike Stalboerger than had RBI singles, and, batting around, Mohs had a two-run single in his second at-bat in the inning.

The Lakers added four runs in the fourth to take an 11-2 lead with Stalboerger hitting an RBI double and Adam Miller hitting a two-run, two-out single.

New Munich scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth and another two on Pat Nathe's homer in the sixth to cut the Lakers' lead to 11-10. But the Lakers scored four more runs in the top of the seventh, with Josh Kampsen hitting his second solo homer of the game - he also lead off the game with a homer - and Doug Fuchs hitting a two-run double.

The Lakers also beat Raymond 3-2 on Friday in an exhibition game at Raymond. The Lakers' overall record is now 6-2.

This week, the Lakers will host Elrosa on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and play at Spring Hill on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Spring Hill 1, Greenwald 0
Rick Lieser took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and combined with Aaron Welle to throw a two-hit shutout as Spring Hill beat Greenwald 1-0 on Sunday.

Lieser did not allow a hit until the seventh inning.

The Chargers scored the game's only run in the top of the fourth. Nathan Terres singled, stole second when the Greenwald pitcher threw the ball into the dugout to get a new ball without calling time, was sacrificed to third, and scored on a suicide-squeeze bunt by Shawn Schoenberg.

Greenwald's best scoring chance came in the eighth inning when pinch-hitter Ryan Kraemer hit a double, the only hit off reliever Welle. But Kraemer was thrown out at home by the Chargers while attempting to tie the game on a suicide squeeze.

The Chargers also defeated Regal 5-4 in an exhibition game on Saturday, May 21, in Spring Hill. Their overall record is now 4-3 and their league record is 2-3.

This week, Spring Hill will play at St. Martin on Saturday and will host Lake Henry on Sunday.

Sacred Heart 6, Regal 3
Regal led Sacred Heart 3-1 until the eighth inning, when Sacred Heart scored five runs with two outs and defeated Regal in a Cornbelt League game.

Regal had taken a 3-0 lead with a run in the first and two in the third. But Sacred Heart scored a run in the seventh and five in the eighth to win.

A.J. Hadley had 12 strikeouts for Regal, and Dan Glover pitched a complete game for Sacred Heart.

This week, Regal will host St. Martin on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and will play at New London-Spicer on Monday, May 30, at 1:30 p.m.

Willmar 8, Paynesville 4
Willmar broke a 3-3 tie with the Paynesville Pirates on Sunday with four runs in the sixth inning. The Rails proceeded to win the Cornbelt League game 8-4.

After Willmar took a 3-1 lead, John Hemingson hit a two-run homer for the Pirates in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3.

Seth Miller provided another highlight for Paynesville, pitching three innings of hitless relief.

The Pirates (now 1-3 in league) do not play again until Wednesday, June 1, when they will host Starbuck at 7:30 p.m.

Richmond 7, Roscoe 3
Richmond broke open their Stearns County League game with Roscoe by scoring four runs in the sixth inning. The Royals led 3-1 before increasing that lead to 7-1 with four runs in the sixth.

Roscoe dropped to 1-3 in league with the loss.

The Rangers did beat St. Wendel on Friday in Roscoe, using a 15-hit attack to plate 13 runs and defeat the Saints 13-1. The win improved the Rangers' overall record to 3-4.

This week, the Rangers will play at New Munich on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and at Meire Grove on Sunday also at 1:30 p.m.
