Pirates beat Regal, 7-1

The Paynesville Pirates broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added four in the bottom of the eighth to beat the Regal Eagles 7-1 in a County Line League game on Friday night in Paynesville.

The victory raised the Pirates" record to 2-1 in league and 4-1 overall. It was Regal"s first league loss after starting the season with two victories..

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead when Darrin Michaelis stole third and scored on a throwing error in the third inning, but Regal tied the score on Scott Braun"s RBI double in the third.

Catcher Josh Williams helped the Pirates escape from a bases loaded jam against the Regal Eagles Friday Night.

But Aaron Bayer hit a double left for the Pirates in the fourth, and Paynesville proceeded to load the bases. Michaelis drove in one run with a walk, and Pat Mohs drove in another after being hit by a pitch.

Paynesville pitchers Dan Starken and Jason Schlecht limited hot-hitting Regal lineup to six hits and one run. Starken earned the victory with six innings of work. Schlecht pitched three innings of one-hit relief for the save. They combined to strike out 15 Regal batters.

The Lakers scored five runs in the top of the tenth inning to beat Elrosa 10-5 on Friday night under the lights in Elrosa.

The see-saw game featured two ties and three lead changes. Lake Henry took an early 2-0 lead, but Elrosa scored three times in the fourth and once in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.

The Lakers scored twice in the top of the eighth to take the lead, but promptly gave a run back to Elrosa in the bottom of the eighth. Lake Henry then scored once in the top of the ninth, and erupted for five runs in the top of the tenth to pick up their third league victory.

The Lakers are now 3-0 in Stearns County League play.

The Lakers also played an exhibition game against Clear Lake on Saturday in Lake Henry and lost 14-5.

Roscoe at St. Martin
The Stearns County League game between Roscoe and St. Martin on Sunday was rained out.
