Pirates fall in 15 innings to Granite Falls

State-power Granite Falls needed 15 innings but the Kilowatts beat the Paynesville Pirates 8-4 in a Cornbelt League game in Paynesville on Sunday.

Granite Falls rallied to tie the game at 4-4 with two runs in the top of the eighth and then won the game with four runs in the 15th inning.

The Pirates had taken a 3-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and added a run in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-2 lead.

Granite Falls pitchers struck out 21 Pirates in 15 innings.

Paynesville fell to 1-2 in the Cornbelt League with the loss.

This week, the Pirates will play at Sacred Heart on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., and they will host Willmar on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Lake Henry 10, Roscoe 3
Lake Henry scored seven runs in the 15th inning to beat Roscoe 10-3 in a Stearns County League South game on Sunday in Roscoe.

Lake Henry had taken a 3-0 lead by scoring single runs in the first, second, and third innings, but then the Rangers held them scoreless for 11 innings before they struck for seven runs in the top of the 15th.

The Rangers scored a run in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to tie the game at 3-3 before falling in extra innings.

Lake Henry improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league with the win. Roscoe fell to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in league with the loss.

Lake Henry also beat Dassel-Cokato 7-4 in an exhibition game on Wednesday, May 11.

This week, the Lakers will play at Raymond on Friday at 7:30 p.m., at Upsala on Saturday at 2 p.m., and at New Munich on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Roscoe will host St. Wendel on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. and will play at Richmond on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

St. Martin 11, Richmond 1
St. Martin scored five runs in the second inning and cruised to an 11-1 victory over Richmond on Sunday in St. Martin. The Martins built an 11-0 lead before the Royals scored on a solo homer in the top of the ninth.

The Martins used a 14-hit attack to score 11 runs, with five players - Luke Rothstein, Sam Rothstein, Nathan Schlangen, Jake Thelen, and Jesse Thelen - all having two hits apiece.

The Martins improved to 3-0 in the Stearns County League South with the win.

This week, the Martins will play against Wolf Lake and against Maple Lake, both games at Maple Lake, on Saturday. On Sunday, the Martins will play a league game at Farming at 1:30 p.m.

Spring Hill 5, Meire Grove 2
The Spring Hill Chargers earned their first league victory of the year with a 5-2 victory over Meire Grove on Sunday in Spring Hill.

The Chargers built a 5-0 lead in beating Meire Grove and raised their league record to 1-3.

Chris Spanier pitched seven shutout innings for Spring Hill.

The Chargers got RBI singles from Rick Lieser and Shawn Schoenberg in the third inning as they took a 2-0 lead. They also got an RBI single from Eric Schoenberg in the sixth. The Chargers scored on suicide-squeeze bunts in both the fourth and seventh innings.

This week, the Chargers will play at Regal on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and they will play at Greenwald on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
