Paynesville tops Regal for first league victory

Paynesville 5, Regal 0
The Paynesville Pirates earned their first victory of the spring, beating Regal in a Cornbelt League game on Sunday in Regal 5-0.

Tyler Wuertz threw a five-hit shutout for Paynesville.

The Pirates (1-1) scored three runs in the third inning and added single runs in the fifth and eighth innings to win 5-0.

Brad Deyak led the Pirates' hitting attack with three hits. Josh Williams had two hits, including a double. Jordan Haag, Adam Hemmesch, Shannon Olmscheid, Nate Schutz, and Wuertz added hits for the Pirates.

Regal (1-1) got hits from Brandon Berg, A.J. Hadley, Greg Hadley, Mike Mueller, and Chris Rohe.

Paynesville will host New London-Spicer in a league game on Sunday at 7 p.m. Regal will play at Sunburg on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Lake Henry 11, Richmond 3
The Lakers (7-1 overall, 3-0 in league) remained undefeated in the Stearns County League, defeating division rival Richmond 11-3 on Sunday in Lake Henry in a game shortened to seven innings by rain.

The Lakers built an 8-1 lead over the first six innings. Doug Fuchs and Adam Kampsen hit back-to-back solo homers in the fourth inning for Lake Henry. Ryan Wuertz hit a two-run double in the sixth, and Jeff Schmitz had three hits and five RBIs for the Lakers.

Wuertz pitched five solid innings, allowing only three hits and one run to earn the pitching win.

This week, the Lakers will host Spring Hill on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

St. Martin 5, Farming 1
Sam Rothstein hit a grand slam homerun in the fourth inning as the St. Martin Martins remained unbeaten in the Stearns County League with a 5-1 victory over Farming on Sunday in St. Martin.

This game, too, was ended after seven innings due to the storms that hit the area on Sunday.

Rothstein unloaded the bases with a homer in the fourth inning to state the Martins (4-1 overall, 3-1 in league) to a 4-0 lead, following singles by Nathan Schlangen, Jake Thelen, and Luke Rothstein that loaded the bases.

Sam Rothstein also scored the Martins' other run in the fifth.

Ken Arceneau pitched over five innings, allowing only one run in the sixth inning, to earn the pitching victory.

This week, the Martins will host Luxemburg on Friday at 6:15 p.m. They will play at Richmond on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Meire Grove 6, Roscoe 5
Meire Grove remained undefeated in league by thwarting a Roscoe rally and defeating the Rangers 6-5 on Sunday.

Visiting Roscoe trailed 6-2 but scored a run in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth inning. Meire Grove got the final two outs in the ninth inning with Roscoe having the tying and go-ahead run on base.

Justin Mackedanz hit a two-run single in the top of the ninth to bring Roscoe (0-4 overall, 0-3 in league) within one run at 6-5 and putting two runners on base. But Doug Meyer got two outs without allowing another run to score to preserve Meire Grove's 6-5 victory.

Matt Imdieke pitched seven strong innings for Meire Grove, allowing only two runs before Roscoe scored three runs in two innings off Meyer.

This week, Roscoe will play at Farming on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
