St. Martin rallies to top Lake Henry

Nathan Schlangen pitched six innings and hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning as St. Martin topped Lake Henry on Sunday in Lake Henry 7-2.

The Martins improved to 2-0 in the Stearns County League South, while the Lakers fell to 1-1.

Lake Henry led 2-1 until the sixth inning when Mike Feldewerd hit an infield single with two outs and Nathan Beier lined a single to left. With a full count, Schlangen homered to right, into the wind blowing straight home from centerfield.

Nathan Schlangen The Martins added two unearned runs in the seventh inning after a Lake Henry error - one of seven on the day for the Lakers - prolonged the inning. Steve Lieser hit an RBI single for St. Martin, which scored their second run on a double steal.

St. Martin teammates congratulated Nathan Schlangen after he hit a go-ahead three-run homer at Lake Henry on Sunday.

Luke Rothstein homered to left in the top of the ninth and earned a save by pitching three scoreless innings in relief of Schlangen, who earned the pitching victory.

Lake Henry took a 2-1 lead with a run in the first and another in the third. Josh Kampsen doubled and scored on a passed ball in the first inning. He reached base after being hit by a pitch in the third inning and scored on an RBI single by Doug Fuchs.

Fuchs pitched five innings for the Lakers, being relieved right before Schlangen's go-ahead homer in the sixth inning.

This week, St. Martin will host Avon in an exhibition game on Friday at 6:15 p.m. and will host Richmond on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. for a league game.

Lake Henry will play at Dassel on Wednesday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. and will play at Roscoe on Sunday, May 15, at 1:30 p.m.

Paynesville 6, Regal 0
The Pirates evened their record with a shutout victory over Regal 6-0 on Sunday in Regal.

The Pirates (1-1 in the Cornbelt League) broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fifth inning and added three more in the sixth.

slide into second Tyler Wuertz and Seth Miller combined to pitch a shutout for the Pirates. Wuertz earned the pitching victory with six innings of work, and Miller earned a save with three innings of scoreless relief.

Regal's Chris Rohe slides safely into second with a double in the fourth inning on Saturday in Regal as Paynesville's Brad Deyak applies a late tag. Both Deyak and Rohe had two hits each, but the Pirates won 6-0.

Regal, in their league opener, fell to 0-1 in the Cornbelt League.

This week, the Pirates will host Granite Falls on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Regal will play an exhibition game at Spring Hill on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and will play at Sunburg on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Roscoe 6, Elrosa 5
Roscoe rallied with six runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat Elrosa 6-5 on Sunday. The Rangers evened their season (2-2) and league record (1-1) with the Stearns County League victory.

The Rangers finally got to Elrosa starter Aaron Vogt in the eighth inning. Vogt had pitched seven scoreless innings before getting tagged for four runs in the eighth. The Rangers also scored two runs off reliever Dustin Breitbach, who got the loss, in the eighth inning.

Todd Leyendecker hit a two-run single in the eighth inning for Roscoe.

Three Roscoe pitchers - Chris VanderBeek, Russ Leyendecker, and Brent Heinen - held Elrosa to three hits, though the Rangers did walk seven Saints. Heinen earned the pitching victory with two scoreless innings of relief.

The Rangers also lost 5-2 to Pearl Lake in an exhibition game at Roscoe on Wednesday, May 4.

This week, Roscoe will host an exhibition game against Atwater on Saturday at 1 p.m., and they will host Lake Henry in a league game on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

New Munich 9, Spring Hill 7
Spring Hill took a 7-6 lead in the top of the 13th inning on an RBI single by Jonathan Nietfeld, but New Munich won the game with a three-run homer by Chad Funk with two outs in the bottom of the 13th inning.

Spring Hill led 6-0 after scoring four runs in the third inning at New Munich, with Dave Stalboerger delivering a two-run single.

But the Silverstreaks' Jim Thull pitched nine innings of scoreless relief, and New Munich tied the game with two runs in the third, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the eighth before winning the game in the bottom of the 13th to keep Spring Hill winless (0-3) in the Stearns County League North.

This week, Spring Hill will host Meire Grove on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
