The Paynesville Bulldog boys' track team competed in two meets this week against the best competition they have seen this year.

On Thursday they competed in New London at the Little Crow Invitational. The boys won the meet by more than 15 points and took home some metal. On Tuesday, May 2, the team faced even tougher competition in Grove City at the Falcon Invitational, where they took third.

On Thursday, the weather was extremely hot with temperatures soaring into the low 90s. This made for an interesting meet and some pretty good times and distances.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Eric Korman, Travis Flanders, Riley Flanders, and Ryan Flanders took second to get the team off to a good start in the first race of the day.

Clayton Lang won both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races, and Luke Trees won the high jump and took second in the long jump.

Jeff Voss took second in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdle races. In the 110-meter race, Voss lost by less than a tenth of a second in a tough group of hurdlers.

Finally, the 1600-meter relay team of Voss, Trees, Eric Rausch, and Nic Glenz took first in the last race of the day to ensure victory.

Tuesday afternoon in Grove City the weather was absolutely perfect. Coach Darrell Carstens reported that 12 athletes had personal best performances at this meet.

Eric Rausch took second in the 400-meter dash. Even though he took second, Rausch still broke the school record with a time of 51.65 seconds.

Clayton Lang took second in the 1,600-meter run by less than a second, running his personal best of 4:32. Lang also took third in the 3,200-meter race.

Other highlights included Jeff Voss taking second and third in the hurdles; and Luke Trees winning the high jump and taking third in the long jump.

The throwers had a good meet here. Josh Bork took third in the discus with a massive throw of 131' 10.5". Steve Flint took second in the shot put with a put of 44' 9.5".

The final highlight came with the 1,600-meter relay team once again. Voss, Trees, Rausch, and Glenz ran a 3:29.97 in the relay, which is a new school record. They won the race on a last second surge by Trees.
