Wes Lieser In a busy week of baseball, the Bulldogs won their first two games of the season, but lost their third conference game and two games at a tournament in Orono on Saturday.

A year after everything seemed to go right for the baseball team, at least until subsections, this year's team has taken a few lumps early in the season.

Junior Wes Lieser pitched a shutout against Kimball Friday night in Paynesville, as the Bulldogs swir double header.

Case in point, the Bulldogs on Saturday played in the Orono tournament against suburban schools Orono and Robbinsdale Cooper, both of whom the Bulldogs beat a year ago for the title.

Against Orono, senior Jon Lieser did not allow an earned run, but lost because three errors led to four unearned runs.

The Bulldogs committed two errors in the third to allow two unearned runs. Then committed another in the bottom of the sixth that allowed another two runs to score, as Orono won 4-2.

Lieser has been a tough-luck loser in his three starts this year. In his first two starts, the Bulldogs failed to score. And in this one, unearned runs beat him.

Ryan Schneider drove home Jeremy Fuchs with a double in the third inning for one of Paynesville's runs, and Lieser scored the other in the top of the sixth on a passed ball after doubling.

The bottom third of Robbinsdale Cooper's lineup pounded the Dogs, as Cooper won 10-0 in five innings. The Bulldogs only hit was by senior Chris Rohe, who has a hit in all seven games so far for the Bulldogs.

In the second, Jon Lieser grabbed a ground ball at short with the bases full, stepped on second, and fired to first for an inning-ending double play. In the sixth, with two on and no out, Wes Lieser got a key strikeout and pop out to end the inning.

Jon Lieser hit a solo homer, the Bulldogs first of the year, in the first inning to give Wes Lieser the only run he would need. The Bulldogs scored three more times in the second, including RBI singles by Nick Stalboerger and Max Meagher.
