Lake Henry powers past Roscoe 16-8

Lake Henry high five The Lake Henry Lakers hit four two-run homers and had 18 hits as they defeated the Roscoe Rangers 16-8 on Sunday in Lake Henry. The game was the league opener for both Stearns County League teams.

Lake Henry broke a 4-4 tie with a six-run fifth inning. Doug Fuchs laced a double to right with the bases loaded to score two runs. Jeff Olmscheid added a two-run single to left, and Jesse Lieser hit a two-run homer to left to end the scoring.

Cutline

The Lakers jumped to an early lead thanks to the hot bat of Ryan Wuertz. He hit a two-run homer in the first innning and another in the third inning and finished the day with five hits and four RBIs.

Roscoe rallied with three unearned runs in the third inning to take a brief lead and tied the game on Greg Heinen's solo homer in the fifth. Heinen also had an RBI single in the third inning.

Lake Henry added two runs in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Jeff Schmitz and four runs in the eighth inning.

The Rangers scored one run in the seventh, another in the eighth, and two in the ninth on a two-run homer by Tony Orbeck.

Mike Stalboerger earned the pitching win for Lake Henry with six innings of work.

This week, Lake Henry plays at Princeton on Saturday night at 7 p.m. and they will host Farming on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Roscoe plays at St. Martin next Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Greenwald 5, St. Martin 2
Greenwald opened its league season with a 5-2 victory over St. Martin on Sunday in Greenwald.

After St. Martin took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Cubs scored two runs in the second, two runs in the third, and another in the fifth to build a 5-1 lead. St. Martin did not score again until the ninth inning.

Tim Hopfer, James Burg, and Doug Welle combined to hold the Martins to two runs. The Martins had nine hits and drew four walks but could not put together scoring rallies.

Next Sunday, the Martins will host Roscoe at 1:30 p.m.
