Martins, Lakers open season with wins

Three pitchers - Ken Arceneau, Nathan Schlangen, and Tim Schaefer - combined to throw a four-hit shutout for the St. Martin Martins, who opened their Stearns County League schedule with a 4-0 win at Meire Grove on Sunday.

Arceneau threw three shutout innings, Schlangen pitched four innings in relief to earn the victory, and Schaefer finished the game with two shutout innings.

St. Martin took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run single by Jake Thelen. Schlangen accounted for the other two runs for the Martins with a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

This week, the Martins will host Roscoe on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Lake Henry 7, Richmond 3
Lake Henry broke a 3-3 tie by using the long ball on Sunday in Lake Henry and beat Richmond 7-3.

With the game tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Josh Kampsen hit a two-run homer to give Lake Henry a 5-3 lead. Ryan Wuertz followed with a solo homer later in the inning to increase the Lakers' lead to 6-3, and Adam Miller hit a solo homer in the eighth inning to make the final 7-3.

The Lakers took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Pat Mohs had an RBI double, and Wuertz had an RBI single in that inning. Richmond rallied to tie the game 2-2 in the third and then 3-3 with a run in the top of the seventh.

Doug Fuchs earned the pitching victory by throwing four innings in relief for the Lakers.

This week, the Lakers will host Avon in an exhibition game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and will play at Farming on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Farming 4, Roscoe 1
Farming broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning and beat Roscoe 4-1 on Sunday in Roscoe.

Ted Nett for Farming and Brent Heinen for Roscoe each pitched six scoreless innings, but Farming scored three unearned runs off Heinen in the seventh.

Farming added another unearned run in the top of the ninth before Roscoe got its lone run in the bottom of the ninth as Mitch Callenius singled and proceeded to score on a single by Curt Christian.

This week, Roscoe will play at St. Martin on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Elrosa 10, Spring Hill 2
Elrosa broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth innings, as the Saints defeated Spring Hill 10-2 on Sunday in Spring Hill.

Seven batters in a row reached base in the Saints' five-run fifth inning, as they handed Spring Hill an opening-day loss.

Elrosa had taken a 1-0 lead, but the Chargers tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the third. After Elrosa built a 10-1 lead, Spring Hill only scores a single run in the bottom of the seventh to make the final 10-2.

This week, Spring Hill will play at Richmond on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
