Sixth-inning rally lifts Dogs against NL-S

By Michael Jacobson

The Bulldogs scored four runs in the sixth inning to rally past New London-Spicer in a "home" game on Monday, April 15, for the team's second win of the season.

The game was scheduled to be played at NL-S, but was played in Paynesville due to better field conditions. Paynesville, therefore, played as the visiting team on their home field.

The Wildcats built a 5-2 lead through five innings, but the Bulldogs sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs in the sixth. Senior Pat Rohe started the rally by being hit by a pitch, and senior Wes Lieser drew a walk next. Sophomore Adam Kampsen scored Rohe with a double, and Lieser scored on a groundout.

Senior Ryan Schneider singled to score Kampsen with the tying run and then scored the winning run himself on a Wildcat error.

Schneider also doubled and scored in the fifth inning for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs scored two unearned runs against the Wildcats, which proved to be crucial. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs played error-free defense.

Lieser pitched the first five innings for the Bulldogs, and senior Jeremy Fuchs earned the victory with two shutout innings in relief.

This week, the Bulldogs will host Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Friday at 5 p.m. and will play at Sauk Centre on Tuesday, April 30.
