Girls take third place at Melrose

Heather Fuchs puttingThe Paynesville girls' golf team took third place at a nonconference meet at Melrose on Thursday.

Senior Heather Fuchs shot a round of 44 at Melrose, finishing third individually. She trailed two golfers from Sauk Centre, with rounds of 40 and 42 respectively, in the chase for medalist honors.

Senior Heather Fuchs led the girls' golf team last week with a round of 44 at Melrose, placing third individually at the meet.

Sauk Centre won the team title at the six-team meet with a four-golfer total of 179, beating Melrose by five strokes and Paynesville by eight. Pierz, another Melrose team, and BBE finished fourth, fifth, and sixth.

Senior Jena Spaulding and sophomore Amber Jensen each fired a round of 47 for Paynesville, tying for seventh overall. Senior Amanda Glenz completed the Dogs' team score with a round of 49.

This week, the Bulldogs began their WCC North schedule with a conference meet at Wapicada in St. Cloud on Tuesday. Next week, they will play at Sauk Centre on Tuesday, April 27.
