Bulldogs take 14 firsts at Annandale

By Andy Jones

The Paynesville male tracksters traveled to Annandale for the first outdoor meet of the year on Friday. This meet was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed a day due to rain.

The weather was very nice on Friday, with only a slight breeze to cool everything off. The wind, however, could not cool off the red-hot Bulldogs, who absolutely destroyed the competition for their second win of the year.

The Bulldogs had the individual winner in 14 of the 18 events, and nearly doubled the score of second place Annandale, winning 170-92.

Senior Josh Trees won the high jump, triple jump, and the 100-meter dash, and was part of the winning 800-meter relay team.

Junior Steve Mages won the 110- and the 300-meter hurdle races, was part of the winning 800-meter relay team, and took third in the high jump.

Senior Ryan Whitcomb won the long jump and was a part of the winning 400- and 800-meter relay teams.

Junior Milan Virant was part of the winning 400-, 800-, and 1,600-meter relays. Every relay team the Bulldogs put together won without much struggle.

Junior Tommy Flannigan won the 800-meter race and took part in the 3,200-meter relay win. Senior Jesse Rien won the 1,600-meter run, and senior Dan Pearson took second place in the 3,200 meter run.

Senior Adam Schaefer took second place in both the shot put and the 100-meter dash. He was also part of the 400-meter relay. Senior Andy Jones took second in the long jump, third in the triple jump, and was part of the first place 1,600-meter relay.

Seniors Jonnie Schefers and Jason Leyendecker took first and second place respectively in the discus competition.

Eighth grader Aaron Bachman won the pole vault, and ninth grader Marlowe Schaumann came in third.

The Bulldogs' home invitational was held on Monday, April 15.

The Bulldogs also will compete at the Willmar Optimist Meet on Thursday, starting at 4 p.m.
