The Paynesville girls' track team started their outdoor season with a victory, beating five other teams last week. The girls' first meet was held at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Tuesday, April 4.

The 3,200-meter relay team providee an excellent start to the meet by getting first place by almost 20 seconds. Their time was 10:55. Coming in with the fastest split was Amanda Mayer with 2:34. The other members are Leanne Kolb, Carin Frenchick, and Danielle Lieser.

In the 100-meter dash, very seldom does anyone tie, but two people made it happen. The ironic part was that it was Courtney Karsch and Tiffany Rausch, who are both from Paynesville. Their time was 13.5, and they each received first place!

The day before the meet, coach Dave Randgaard put together an 800-meter relay team with Karsch, Heidi Jansen, Sara Lieser, and Carla Hemmesch. With only one day of practice, this team received second place with a time of 1:58. ÒThis (relay) team was a positive surprise for the team,Ó said Randgaard.

In the 800-meter run, Frenchick ran great and placed first with a time of 2:38. Frenchick finished five seconds in front of the other runners.

In the 400- and 200-meter dashes, Rausch ran real well and placed first in all her events. Her time in the 400 was 1:02.4, and her time in the 200 was 27.5.

When you thought she just couldn't get any better, Jenny Hess broke another school record in the 3,200-meter run. Hess ran an 11:11 and broke her old record of 11:30.7!

Melissa Bachman and Mayer received second and third places in the triple jump, scoring 16 points for the team. Bachman jumped 31'11Ó and Mayer jumped 31'7Ó.

The tracksters are well on their way to another successful season. They continue to excel at a high level. So far, they have won their first two track meets of the season. ÒWe are really pleased and a little surprised we are doing so well this early in the season. We scored big in many events, but had no points in four other events. Our seniors really led the scoring for the team in this meet, and we will continue to count on them for the rest of the season,Ó said Randgaard.

The girls competed at home yesterday. They will have a meet on Tuesday, April 18 in Annandale, starting at 4 p.m.
