Local youth compete in state tourney

Nineteen local youth, in grades K-6, competed in the Jaycee State Wrestling Tournament in Long Prairie on Saturday, April 7.

Fifth graders Jordan Christian and Ryan Gale took first place for the Paynesville Wrestling Club.

The 19 members of the club wrestled against competitors from 67 other towns. They had to qualify for state by taking first or second at a regional tournament, held in Willmar, Albany, and Long Prairie this year.

Kindergarten: Daniel Christiansen, second; Ashley Fleischhacker, third;
First grade: Kyle Wolters, third;
Second grade: Matthew Doom, second; Tyler Hemmesch, second; Kody Klein, second; Trevor Spanier, third; Mitchell Mead, fourth;
Third grade: Michael Doom, second; Justin Wendlandt, second; Eric Wolbeck, second; Dillin Christiansen, third; Jordan Lieser, third; Riley Kampsen, fourth;
Fifth grade: Jordan Christian, first; Ryan Gale, first; Cory Spanier, second; Kevin Klein, fourth;
Sixth grade: Cole Kampsen, third.
